Rovin Carandang
As one of the top real estate brokers and construction owners in Indianapolis, Rovin Carandang has a strong instinct for matching the right clients with the right properties. "I love what I do. It pulls together a lot of different aspects of business", said Carandang, who grew up In Greenwood and studied accounting/finance at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. "I've been fortunate to work with some of the most successful companies in Indianapolis," Carandang said. "Watching them grow and thrive, and being in touch with that level of energy at those companies is very rewarding." His client list is a who's who of top local companies: Simon Property Group, Wyndham Hotels, Allstate, Indiana Farmers, Erie Insurance, among others. His residential client list exceeds well over 500 and he has performed work all over the country.
He joined Ernst & Young LLP, a Big 3 Public Accounting Firm, in 1997, and worked his way up through the corporate ladder becoming the youngest Senior Financial Analyst in the firms history. Rovin parted ways in 2005 once he acquired his Real Estate license. After a year at Century 21, Carandang was recruited by Signature Realty Group (SRG) to take over as Managing Broker. "When I took over, SRG was doing a little over a million in residential sales". "Within 2 years we were generating well over fifteen million with a sales staff of 8." In 2008, Carandang purchased the rights to Signature and took over as Principal Broker/Owner.
A self-styled entrepreneur, Carandang enjoys working at the company, where being part of the ownership team gives him independence and flexibility. As President of Signature Realty Group and Engineered Construction, Carandang has positioned himself in an industry where he is able to offer his clients a "one stop shop" for all their real estate and construction needs."I started out purchasing bank owned properties and flipping them in 2005. By 2008, we had flipped over 30 properties with an average profitability of 30% per transaction. It only made sense to incorporate my own construction company to better manage our work flow and reduce expenses. By 2008, we realigned our focus and moved into storm damage restoration and commercial development that has brought us to where we are today."
The greatest benefit of being an owner is his ability to set his own schedule so he can spend as much time as possible with his family. He and his wife (a CPA for the Department of Defense) juggle busy schedules but are still able to make the most of their time with their two daughters, Mya 8, Lucy 4, and son Ty 1. A young family is one reason he plans business trips to be as compact as possible. The one downside to his business, he said, is that it demands a lot of time away from home. "If you can overcome that and make some personal sacrifices, it can become very worthwhile, he said." "Although, I'm pretty well-connected regardless of where I am, thanks to my laptop and iPhone."
He has been recently nominated Business Manager for the Baranguay Club on Indianapolis, an organization that serves the Filipino-American community. "I just fell in love with the organization and the impact the Baranguay Club makes on young Filipino's", he said. "Outside of spending time with my own family, volunteering has become one of the most rewarding things I do."
